Why we measure audience

We use privacy-preserving audience measurement to understand, in aggregate, how many people use Join and which pages they visit, so we can keep the service reliable and improve it. We do not use analytics for advertising, cross-site tracking or user profiling.

Legal basis and your right to object

The measurement relies on our legitimate interest in operating and improving Join (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Because it is limited and privacy-preserving, no consent banner is used — but you can object at any time using the opt-out control at the bottom of this page, with no effect on your ability to use Join.

How measurement works

Measurement uses Matomo, a self-hosted, open-source analytics tool. Matomo runs on infrastructure operated for Join, not a third-party advertising platform, and it is configured to run without analytics cookies. No data is sent to advertising networks, and nothing is sold or shared for advertising.

What is processed

For each page view we send only a normalized page address (the path, without any query string or fragment), together with the standard technical information your browser provides to any website (such as approximate browser and device type and, on the Matomo server, an IP address masked to remove its last two bytes). This information is used only in aggregate.

We never send usernames, Blurt account names, Order identifiers, memos, transaction identifiers, public or private keys, recovery tokens, or any referral or campaign parameter from the address bar. Your private keys never leave your browser at all.

Cookies

Audience measurement runs without analytics or tracking cookies. The only related cookie is a first-party functional cookie that remembers your opt-out choice; it stores a simple on/off value, lasts one year, and is not an identifier.

IP address masking

Before your IP address is stored in Matomo’s database it is masked: its last two bytes are removed, so your full address is never stored. This is a verified production setting that must remain enabled. Masking reduces the risk of identification but does not amount to complete or mathematically irreversible anonymization, and because it is applied on the Matomo server, this application cannot enforce a remote server’s configuration.

How long data is kept

Aggregated measurement data is kept only for as long as it is useful for understanding site usage, according to the retention settings configured on the Matomo server. It is not combined with your onboarding data.

Who receives the data

The measurement data stays within the self-hosted Matomo instance operated for Join. It is not shared with advertising networks or other third parties, and it is not used to track you across other websites.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, erase or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to it — which for audience measurement you can exercise immediately with the opt-out below. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection supervisory authority.
